Dengue
A mosquito-borne viral disease
Global Status
According to the WHO, dengue cases increased tenfold from 500,000 in 2010 to 5 million in 2019.
Between 2024 and 2025, more than 15 million cases have been reported, with the disease now spreading to over 100 countries.
Due to climate change, transmission seasons are starting earlier, and rising temperatures are continuously expanding affected regions.
The distribution of Aedes mosquitoes is shifting, with spread extending into southern Europe.
Rising Risk of
Dengue in Korea
Approximately 390 million dengue infections occur each year, of which around 96 million present with symptoms. It is estimated that about 3.9 billion people worldwide are at risk of dengue infection.
Estimated Global Spread of Dengue
Inhibition of All Four Serotypes
Niclosamide, the active ingredient of XAFTY®, inhibits dengue virus in a dose-dependent manner and reduces infection across all four serotypes at concentrations above 0.37 μM.
No significant cytotoxicity was observed, and no difference in cell viability was found between treated and untreated cells under conditions exceeding CC50 of 10 μM.
Demonstrates strong antiviral activity against all four dengue virus serotypes
Serotype | DENV-1 | DENV-2 | DENV-3 | DENV-4 |
EC50 Value | 1.45 μM | 0.38 μM | 0.37 μM | 0.25 μM |
XAFTY® Clinical Trial Approval
Trial Design: Phase 2/3 basket clinical trial
Collaborating Institutions: Vietnam National Hospital of Tropical Diseases (NHTD), among others
Monotherapy Approach: Establishing a new paradigm for infectious disease treatment with a single-drug therapy
Early Administration Possible: Enables pre-diagnosis and early-stage intervention for asymptomatic and early infection cases
Oral Formulation: Contributes to global health equity by improving accessibility
